Mathematics

The mathematics faculty of 9 specialist teachers is housed in our specialist Maths block.

Key Stage 3

In Years 7 - 9 students receive 4 Maths lessons per week. We aim to develop every pupil's mathematical ability through experience and use of mathematics in a variety of situations. We cover the four areas of number, algebra, shape, space & measures and handling data as set out in the national curriculum. Formal assessment takes place each half-term to monitor student progress.

GCSE

As a core subject, all students follow the AQA modular mathematics GCSE course

The course covers the four mathematical areas:

* number
* algebra
* shape, space and measures
* handling data

Assessment of the GCSE consists of 3 Modular Examinations.

MODULAR EXAMINATIONS

Students sit two examinations in year 10, each of which has two sections, one involving the use of a calculator and one without:

* Handling Data (18% of final mark)
* Number and Algebra (27% of final mark)

The final examination is taken at the end of Year 11, also consisting of two sections, one involving the use of a calculator and one without:

* Algebra, Shape and Space (55% of the final mark)
