MUFTI DAY

The Ghana Project students are delighted that, as a school, we managed to raise £1130 on our Ghana Mufti Day in November. This will more than cover the cost of the water pump and hospital equipment that will be taken to Ghana in February.
Spookily, Anglian Water cut off the water supply on the morning of our Mufti-so we could all experience life without clean, running water!

Team Ghana

In February 2012, a group of 15 students from MOULTON SCHOOL undertook an expedition to Duga, in the Lake Volta region of GHANA to install a SkyHydrant Water Filtration Unit.

Duga, a small rural community, is home to the 800 student local school. The community had accessed water from an outdated borehole system using a hand pump which had fallen into disrepair. The water had become contaminated and unsafe to drink.

The task was to install a filtration unit over the existing borehole located at the school. Together with a header tank, storage container and pump, the community now has access to 12,000 litres of clean water a day.

How was the Money Raised ?

MOULTON SCHOOL raised the money for the SkyHydrant Filtration Unit through a variety of fund raising projects from students, staff and parents. In addition funds were also raised for the purchase of much needed medical supplies for the local community Medical Centre.

The Outcome?

The objective of the trip for the Moulton students was to provide "service to the community" which forms part of the school's ethos "ASPIRE". It gave the poor rural community at Duga, much needed equipment and medical supplies.

Students thoroughly enjoyed the trip and commented on what a humbling experience it had been, witnessing life in a very different world from their own, devoid of gadgets and modern day so-called "electrical necessities." Their lasting impression was that of a happy community who took life as it came.
